Communicating with family and friends is easy with REACH. REACH speaks as you type or after you're finished typing. You can highlight text virtually anywhere on the screen and have it read back to you. What's more, you can use REACH's new Smart Speech add-on to use the ultimate in augmentative communication.	Using REACH's on-screen keyboards, you can use Twitter®, Facebook®, blog, email, or instant messaging! Using current social media tools is easier with REACH and can help you stay connected with friends and family!	REACH is adaptive technology. REACH adapts to how you use the mouse or pointer. Can't click? Do you tend to make extra clicks? No problem, REACH can help! REACH can help you click by using a feature called Dwell. By utilizing Smart Lists technology, Smart Speech can deliver an unprecedented number speech options quickly, reducing the number of clicks to create conversational sentences. REACH Smart Speech also can be used as a writing tool, because you can type your sentences into any word processor, spreadsheet, email, etc.	REACH's add-on features can help you become more efficient and productive. Most of these optional add-ons were developed through research grants funded by the National Institutes of Health. Our research led to these innovative solutions which increase typing speed and accuracy, and for most of these options, we have data showing their effectiveness. REACH Smart Speech Add-On

REACH's Smart Speech is a collection of specialized keyboards and dictionaries designed to deliver the ultimate in Speech Augmentation.

How It Works

Smart Speech helps you quickly build sentences by leveraging the use of Smart Lists technology. With each click you're offered a Smart List menu containing probable words and grammatical categories, both based on what you have typed in the sentence so far. If you select a grammatical category, for example "Nouns," you are presented 24 categories of nouns to select from. When you then pick a category such as "Food," you are taken to a "Food" keyboard containing lots of food items -- in two clicks, you can select from 898 food-related nouns - one more click - the "plural" key in the upper right corner of the keyboard - and you can double that number to 1,796 food-related nouns! Smart Speech not only gives you quicker and more effortless access to thousands of words, but it guides you through sentence construction by only giving you the most probable words and links to only those parts-of-speech that make the most sense given what you have typed.

Another innovative aspect to Smart Speech is that you can use it to type directly into any open application - not just a speech text window on an augmentative communication device. That means that although it is named "Smart Speech," it also can be used as a writing tool, for composing sentences in documents, spreadsheets, emails, internet applications, etc. In addition, you can use keys on the keyboard to "speak the current sentence," speak the current "thought" (a thought is a paragraph containing one or more sentences), create new thoughts, move up and down the thoughts in your document, clear thoughts, etc.

Smart Speech's goal is for you to be able to construct, write, and speak a meaningful conversational sentence while averaging 2-3 clicks per word! This is a significant product for anyone trying to write or speak a large variety of sentences while substantially reducing the number of clicks required.

Requirements?

Smart Speech requires REACH Interface Author. Even though Smart Speech uses Smart List technology, you only need to purchase the Smart Speech add-on. However, if you want to use Smart Lists outside of Smart Speech on regular keyboards that come with REACH, or use it on the standard keyboards that come embedded in the Smart Speech keyboards, you'll need to purchase the Smart Lists add-on.
