A discussion of REACH and Windows 8 or 10

Windows 8 and 10 have two "modes" of operation: Metro Mode and Desktop Mode.

Metro Mode

Metro mode is a screen where full-screen "apps" run. These apps are like applications for a smart phone or tablet. In fact the Metro mode "feels" like a smart phone in many ways. The screens are full and content is dynamic and rich.

Desktop Mode

Many applications or programs weren't designed to run in Metro Mode, and those run under the Desktop Mode. Some applications that fit this are, word processors, mail readers, etc. However, some applications will run under "Metro." When that happens the entire screen is "swapped." This may be confusing but REACH will always be there for you.

REACH features

Many applications are designed to work in the mode or "desktop" mode but not both.

REACH, however, does work in both modes. We've added a new "hide REACH" button on the button bar that allows you to enjoy the full-screen apps (on both Metro and Desktop modes). When you click the "hide REACH" button, REACH is hidden for you and a large "Show REACH" panel fades into view. This panel will fade into the background a little so you almost don't even notice it.

If you don't like where the "Show REACH" panel is located, you can drag it to wherever you wish.

Clicking the "Show REACH" panel will bring back REACH's keyboard, button bar, word prediction, etc. Whatever you had showing when you hid REACH will now be visible again.

Windows 8 or 10 User Interface

There are some issues that you may come across when using Windows 8 or 10. We urge you to spend some time learning about "Metro" mode and how to use it. Consult the Windows Help, Online Windows Help, and other documentation to learn how to use the Metro mode.
