About Us

Applied Human Factors, Inc. was established in 1991. One of our first projects was funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health to create cordless light pen and complementary on-screen keyboard for use by people with disabilities.

The on-screen keyboard was to be unique in that it could be "authored," with keys positioned as desired and each key's function assigned by the user. The software was "leading edge," partly because it ran on the latest Microsoft operating system - Windows 3.1! From that early work in assistive technology, we eventually were able to bring you the unique product REACH Interface Author.

REACH continues to evolve, and remains in a class of its own in terms of providing powerful options and flexibility users. In addition, we have created many other new products based on very clever ideas. For REACH, we have added Smart Keys, Smart Lists, the Sound-It-Out Keyboard, and Smart Speech, and other products continue to be developed based on research in the area of assistive technology.

We continue to work on new innovative ideas like our OneWay product (Patent # 8013837). This new approach offers a faster alternative to people currently using single or dual-switch scanning or people who are using conventional pointers, but not very well.
